Anti-Doping Agency Hands Out Sanctions To Russia

The World Anti-Doping Agency says it has concluded the most successful investigation in anti-doping history, handing more than 300 sanctions to Russian athletes.

Operation Lims, launched after data from a Moscow lab was seized in 2019, resulted in 291 athletes across 22 sports being sanctioned by 23 anti-doping organisations.

Weightlifting led with 107 cases, followed by athletics with 93.

The operation stemmed from a state-sponsored doping programme exposed in 2015, and data retrieved from the Moscow lab later revealed evidence of manipulation, ultimately triggering a four-year Russian ban from major sporting events.
