Prominent Trinidadian entrepreneur and philanthropist Arthur Lok Jack has unveiled his autobiography, Beyond Borders – Building a Global Business.
The book offers an intimate glimpse into his journey, shaped by bold decisions, resilience, and personal growth.
At Monday’s book launch, Mr. Lok Jack described the writing process as an opportunity to revisit the pivotal moments that shaped his journey and reaffirmed his belief in the power of persistence, noting that the book chronicles the “storms weathered, the setbacks overcome, and the quiet victories along the way.”
“Today marks more than just the launch of my book. It is the moment to reflect on a journey shaped by bold risks, unwavering resilience, and enduring belief. It’s about remembering those early days when the dream of building a company was driven more by ambition than by capital and guided by curiosity more than certainty.”
Mr. Lok Jack acknowledged that while the world continues to evolve, the core principles of success remain unchanged.
“Anticipate, adapt, and act before the wave hits, which is the essence of what I call, and all my executives know, hear this from me all the time, I call anticipatory management. Principles like this were the guiding philosophies that have shaped my decisions through every chapter of my journey.”
Mr. Lok Jack also praised his wife, Glenda: “Her love, especially during health challenges, has carried me through more stages of life than I can count. The photo on the last page of this book says it all. After more than 57 years, Glenda, we’re still living our best lives.”
According to his son, Nicholas Lok Jack, his father instilled values rooted in family, with love serving as a vital, though often overlooked, foundation in business. He added that his father’s earnest and humble nature continues to leave a lasting impression on everyone he meets.
“Adam talked about the Ferris wheel. It is also the Ferris wheel of stewardship, and I think one of the most important things that I’ve learnt is stewardship. This is not ownership of a company for my benefit or for Chris’ benefit or Greg’s benefit, this is simply a caretaker role, where we take care of it, we grow it responsibly and we hand it off to the next generation, not for their benefit either but for the benefit of the future generation.”
Nicholas Lok Jack reiterated that being a force for good in business goes far beyond profit. He stressed that true impact means giving back, not only financially but also through time, effort, and values, reflected in initiatives like the establishment of the Arthur Lok Jack Global School of Business.
