Care and protect especially the most vulnerable children in society.
This was the advice to adults from Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Gender and Child Affairs, Ayanna Webster-Roy, speaking at an ‘Inclusion and Wellness Fair’ in Tacarigua to commemorate World Children’s Day.
She encouraged citizens to not only recognise children, but teach, and teach them about their rights, adding that adults have a major responsibility toward all the children of the nation.
“Encourage our children to embrace the responsibilities that accompany their rights, that we as adults, we have a unique, special, awesome God-given responsibility to care and protect some of our nation’s most vulnerable children. So on this World Children’s Day as we celebrate all that our nation has to offer via our children, I want to urge the adults in our society to be more mindful. Be more mindful in the way we treat with our children, to be more caring, to be more protective of our children.”
The event at the Eastern Regional Sporting Arena along Orange Grove Road brought together over 2,000 children, for a day filled with education and health testing, interactive games, knowledge points, and entertainment.
The Minister, also the Member of Parliament for Tobago East, said the island will not be left out.
“Next week we will be in Tobago creating this awesome opportunity for some of Tobago’s children to come together to have the same opportunity to visit various booths, get information to lend towards their growth and their development, and obviously we might have some surprises in store. Children in Trinidad today had the opportunity to interact with Certified Sampson and they had the opportunity to get some awesome food and handouts from some various service providers.”
