Caribbean Excellence Recognised At 2025 Sabga Awards

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the Anthony N. Sabga Awards, Caribbean Excellence 2025 featured four new laureates from across the region.

This year’s awards recognised exceptional achievements in Arts and Letters, Entrepreneurship, Public and Civic Contributions, and Science and Technology.

Communication Consultant for the Awards, Robert Clarke, said the nomination process for selecting this year’s winners was meticulous and well-strategised.

“It’s a rigorous selection process. We have countries nominating committees in five territories across the Caribbean: Barbados, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, and the OECS, and they really scour their territories for the best candidates, and then they go before an eminent selection panel, and the best are chosen.”

One of this year’s laureates in the sphere of Entrepreneurship, Rachael Renie-Gonzales, was one of the first in Trinidad and Tobago to use an online e-commerce platform to sell local produce.

Ms. Gonzales identified that her business aims to assist local farmers and advance T&T’s agricultural systems.

“So I am in the business of food; basically, our motto is we’ll work for food. We are all about local agriculture, adding value to local food systems, and bringing the best and healthiest foods to the consumer.”
