Caribbean Task Force On Food Safety

The Caribbean Task Force on Food Safety is leading a regional drive to incorporate food safety and improve safety standards from ‘farm to fork’ across the Caribbean, attempting to build a more resilient food safety mechanism throughout the Caribbean region, further empowering consumers to make safer and healthier food choices.

According to the outgoing CTFS Chairperson and Director of Government Analytical Services in Barbados Dr. Beverly Wood, most of our Caribbean countries’ food control agencies are operating in silos, and it is the intention of the task force to bring them together

Dean of the Faculty of Food and Agriculture at the UWI, St. Augustine, Professor Mark Wuddivira said his faculty will continue to further their research, educate persons, and boost food resilience in the region through capacity building.

The safety of citizens is the government’s number one priority. This is according to Minister of Agriculture, Ravi Ratiram. The minister also welcomed Trinidad and Tobago’s hosting of the 2nd in-person meeting of the regional task force, noting the importance of the collective work being done.

Minister Ratiram said this project is one that requires all hands on deck by regulators and regional and international trading partners to ensure the safety of consumers by avoiding any negative incidents or impacts. The CTFS is conducting their 2025 Annual Meeting at the UWI St. Augustine on June 3rd and 4th.
