The Consumer Affairs Division along with the Fair Trading Commission is reminding consumers that they have the choice to shop around to ensure they receive the most affordable price for products.
They note that Trinidad and Tobago is a free market economy and businesses can set their own profit margin, but it falls in the hands of the consumer to determine what and where they purchase items.
Executive Director at the Fair Trading Commission, Bevan Narinesingh, says they can investigate whether businesses are engaging in ‘anti-competitive’ practices but reminds consumers that they have the power.
Meanwhile, Acting Director of Consumer Guidance and Protection, Claudette Jordan-John, is encouraging consumers to shift their consumption patterns to assist in reducing their monthly food bills.
