CWI Trims 2025 Super50 Amid Financial Woes

Cricket West Indies has announced a major shake-up to its flagship 50-over tournament, the CG United Super50 Cup, with a leaner format and fewer teams this year.

The 2025 CG United Super50 Cup will run from November 19 to 29 in Trinidad, but with a streamlined structure. CWI has reduced the tournament from eight teams and 31 matches to six teams in a shortened round-robin format, as the regional body navigates financial constraints.

Traditional powerhouses like Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, Barbados Pride, and Guyana Harpy Eagles will now face stiffer competition as only the top two teams will advance directly to the final.

The West Indies Academy and Combined Campuses and Colleges have been excluded this year, a move CWI says will raise competition levels within the remaining squads.

Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe noted the revised structure still supports elite development, while refocusing resources.

Prize money includes US$100,000 for the champions, US$50,000 for the runner-up, and US$25,000 each for the 3rd and 4th placed teams.
