Energy Minister Dr. Roodal Moonilal and Minister in the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries Ernesto Kesar met with executives of Perenco today (October 17, 2026) for an update on a crane incident at the company’s Samaan Alpha platform in the TSP Area, offshore Galeota.
Permanent Secretary Karinsa Tulsie also attended the meeting at the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries (MEEI). Perenco was represented by Operations Manager Gabriel Dubrule, Business Advisor Allan Russell and Administrative Manager Stephen Awah.
Minister Moonilal said the Government views all such incidents as serious and has been actively engaged with representatives of all regulatory agencies on the matter. He acknowledged Perenco’s response to the incident.
Perenco told the ministers that it is preparing a preliminary report and will submit it to the required regulatory agencies within the stipulated legal timeframe. The company said the contractor vessel affected by the incident was able to return to base under its own propulsion, and that no worker on the vessel was injured.
In the interim, Perenco said it has suspended all crane operations across its installations in Trinidad and is inspecting all of its cranes. The MEEI noted that there has been no negative impact on base crude oil production from Perenco-operated assets.
Perenco said it remains fully engaged with all regulatory agencies, including the Occupational Safety and Health Authority and Agency and the MEEI. Mr. Russell stressed that all activities must be carried out efficiently and safely to minimise the impact on people, life, the environment and property, while liaising with all stakeholders involved.
