GAP Programme Replaced By National Care And Support Programme, Minister Mohit Announces

Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services, Vandana Mohit highlighted one of the newest programmes which her Ministry will be handling.

The programme replaces the Geriatric Adolescence Programme.

“We have been reviewing the GAP programme because when we got into officer there were several outstanding applications and what I’ll share with you this morning is that we have an outstanding number of nineteen hundred and thirty four applications under the GAP programme. In October 2026, what the Cabinet did is we approved the renaming of the GAP programme to introduce the National Care and Support Programme.”

The Minister explained who the new programme will serve and the range of services it will provide.

She also stressed that the introduction of the programme would not result in anyone losing access to care, nor would it lead to any job losses.

“Persons with disabilities, the elderly and general vulnerable persons who are in urgent need of care. When we were reviewing this programme, the GAP programme, what we saw is that this programme has been a pilot programme for over twenty something years. Now you have a pilot programme for a short programme so you can initiate a second phase, a third phase and then its a full fledged programme.”

Minister Mohit indicated that there will be a transition period between the end of the GAP programme and the start of the NCSP initiation.
