Following two massive earthquakes in neighbouring Venezuela last week, Minister of Rural Development and Local Government Khadijah Ameen has underscored the important role municipal police officers play, noting they were the first responders dispatched to Venezuela to aid in recovery efforts.
Speaking at the launch of the Trinidad and Tobago Municipal Police Service’s Public Information and Communications Unit on Monday, the Minister gave an update on relief efforts for Venezuela through local public and private partnerships.
She noted that various drop-off points have been identified for those wanting to donate dry goods and non-perishable items.
“The Ministry of Works has designated shed one and two at PLIPDECO compound in Point Lisas for collection of items, where the containers will be packaged so those who are contributing in bulk or pallets will get it down to PLIPDECO. In Rural Development and Local Government, we have designated all fourteen municipalities as collection points so the members of the public will be free to bring their items in.”
