Education Minister Dr Michael Dowlath says an additional TT$40 million in CAF funding has been secured to support the procurement of 18,000 laptops within the next fiscal year.
Speaking during the Standing Finance Committee on Tuesday evening, the Minister said the procurement process is already at an advanced stage, with TSTT currently handling the acquisition of the devices.
“Madam Chair, through you there is an additional 40 million through CAF funding. It’s well advanced right now.”
The Minister also revealed that while Government paid out 20,773 Book Grants in 2026, the programme is currently under review to assess its effectiveness and reach.
“The funding for the book grant will be dealt with. Presently we are re-evaluating the efficiency and reach of the Book Grant. I want to note that in 2025 the PNM provided no money for that book grant that they campaigned on.”
