Habitat For Humanity T&T Looks To Triple Its Local Impact In Three Years

Habitat for Humanity Trinidad and Tobago has increased its impact locally over the last few years and intends to expand its work in the future.

This was highlighted by the organisation’s Chairman of the Capital Campaign Cabinet, Eugene Tiah, who says the local arm of the global non-profit organisation has evolved significantly over the years.

“Here in Trinidad and Tobago we have strategically transitioned from focusing solely on house construction to expanding our efforts in resilience, advocacy and community strengthening. This approach has increased our impact, particularly in communities affected by flooding, high winds and other climate-related hazards that continue to damage homes and disrupt lives.”

Mr Tiah noted that the home which he and other volunteers had gathered to paint would provide secure housing for ten people.

“We have opened the door with this starter home, which costs $380,000. Looking ahead, our ambition is bold; over the next three years, we intend to triple our local impact, reaching more families, strengthening more communities and expanding our resilience initiative across Trinidad and Tobago. Achieving that vision will require partnerships and sustained support from all sectors of society.”

Meanwhile, one of Habitat for Humanity’s partners, Citibank (Trinidad and Tobago) Limited, highlighted its support for the organisation’s work.

The company’s Head of Internal Audit, Rozette Krystal Maharaj, said Citibank is proud to contribute to Habitat for Humanity’s initiatives and the positive impact they continue to have on communities.

“Through the Citi Foundation’s Global Innovation Challenge and our support for the Settled Strong Resilience Initiative, SSRI, we have partnered with Habitat for Humanity to turn vision into action. To date the SSRI has repaired or constructed nearly 20 homes; that’s a lot, mobilised over 150 volunteers and 500 service hours.”

Habitat for Humanity International is celebrating fifty years of building and repairing safe, decent and affordable homes in 2026.
