In response to claims made by Member of Parliament for Oropouche East, Dr Roodal Moonilal on Monday, the Housing Development Corporation or HDC says it does not target tenants of any particular political persuasion.
Its current collection drive, it says is simply a process to collect outstanding monies owed to them.
The HDC outlined in their statement, the process of eviction, informing that the first step comes in the form of three separate letters to the delinquent tenant. If there is no response the name of the tenant is published in the press.
If there is still no communication from the offending tenant a Notice to Quit is sent out. After this, the eviction happens within 30 days.
The HDC assures however that at every stage, the tenant can come in to make arrangements to pay.
To date, over 7000 residential tenants owe the HDC over 171M dollars and 150,000 applicants are awaiting allocation on the Housing Application Fulfilment System.
The HDC says that it has shown and will continue to show patience and understanding to its tenants.
However, they point out, the HDC is also obligated to protect its assets and will continue to do so without fear or favour, as they carry out their mandate to improve their debt collection and reduce delinquency.
