A hydroponics system has been established at the Russell Latapy Secondary School in an effort to create a spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation in students through agriculture.
At the Handing Over Ceremony on Wednesday, Chairman of the Esimaje Foundation, Dr. David Toby, said the Foundation wants young people, particularly young men, to be interested in projects that can generate income.
One of the students who started the project at the school, Dane Lewis, shared a few advantages of establishing a hydroponics system.
MP for the area Adrian Leonce thanked the Foundation for investing in the school and children in the community, and sensitizing them about the ease of food production, and its benefits to the community.
An estimated $75,000 was spent on the project to assist with training and other operational costs.
The funds were donated by the National Lotteries Control Board and Republic Bank Limited.
