Fitness, wellness and community spirit took centre stage on Sunday as the Indian High Commission, in collaboration with the Couva Point Lisas Chamber of Commerce, hosted the second edition of the Viksit Bharat 5K.
More than 250 fitness enthusiasts converged at the Couva South Hall to engage in a day of high-energy activity and fun.
Chargé d’Affaires at the Indian High Commission, Shri Sagar Maitra, explained the significance behind the 2047 theme.
“Viksit Bharat @2047 is the brainchild of our honourable and beloved Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi Ji, and it signifies that India, we are all inclusive, self-reliant, dynamic and a developed nation when it reaches 100 years of its independence in 2047.”
Meanwhile, Second Vice President of the Couva Point Lisas Chamber of Commerce, Anissa Ali, said the Chamber was pleased to partner with the Indian High Commission, noting that the event aligns with a shared commitment.
“In our shared vision of mental health, wellness and preventative care in terms of the progress for Viksit Bharat 2047, but the run is 2026. I know you would have heard about the vision that is Viksit Bharat, and we have so many deep roots with India, so it was absolutely our pleasure to work alongside the India High Commission with this event.”
The winners of the 5K run received cash prizes for their performance.
