The planned transfer of responsibilities for the Lake View Housing Development in Point Fortin to a dedicated management company is being delayed by land ownership issues.
Minister in the Ministry of Housing Phillip Alexander said Point Fortin MP Ernesto Kesar and the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) are working to establish a management company that would eventually assume responsibility for the development.
However, he said the process cannot be completed until ownership of the land is transferred.
“In Lake View, the MP, Ernesto Kesar, is working together with the HDC to create a management company for Lake View to vest all of their responsibilities in their own management company. But the challenge is that the land is part of Heritage. I think it’s Petrotrin, Heritage company that has the title to the land, and the working out getting the land transferred so it could be vested in that management company so that they could take responsibility.”
The Minister stressed, however, that HDC is not rushing the handover and is ensuring major infrastructure concerns are addressed before responsibility is transferred.
“We’re not just handing it over, like Mr Showers said, they would have already rehabilitated, because we would have shown, about six months ago, the condition of those treatment facilities that was pumping sewerage into the Lake View Dam. That has been repaired, and all of the other situations up there that require rehabilitation before we hand over – we’re on top of that, working very closely with the MP for the constituency.”
