“Let’s Open The Door” – Habitat For Humanity TT Launches Housing Initiative

Celebrating a global reach of sixty-five thousand people, Habitat for Humanity is turning its focus toward increasing awareness within Trinidad and Tobago.

With 25,000 of its beneficiaries located in Trinidad and Tobago, the organisation is making its housing resources more accessible locally through partnerships with sponsors and a unique social media competition.

Communications Officer Quintin Dickson explained that Habitat for Humanity TT aims to raise awareness and to improve public access to information through their new initiative, “Let’s Open the Door”.

“So essentially what we are asking everyone to do is to come out, visit the doors, read, take pictures, share it with your friends, family, scan the QR codes on the door, like the post behind the QR code because the post tells you about all the work that we do.”

Mr. Dickson added that the campaign includes a social media competition component.

“We have a social media competition running. We are asking people to create a 30-second reel in front of the doors, they’re answering the prompt, ‘What is behind your dream door?’ When you answer the prompt, you post to your social media, you tag us, you use the hashtags and you would gain entry into the competition. The prize for the competition is a trip to Five Islands for a group of one to three persons and a food voucher for their concession stands valued at 400 TT dollars.”

The organisation continues to provide this support through the generosity of corporate sponsors. Among them is Citigroup, whose Country Officer, Mitchell De Silva, noted that the initiative aligns perfectly with the bank’s corporate goals.

“It’s just the impact. We recognise as a global institution that there are communities that need our assistance and our support. So we draw on that expertise, and when we find something that aligns with our objectives and that is impactful at a grassroots level, we pursue it, and this particular project resonated with us.”

Habitat for Humanity TT will continue its public outreach on the Brian Lara Promenade until May 6th.
