Machel Montano has described his latest Road March win as an extraordinary moment.
As he reflected on his historic achievement of gaining 12 Road March titles, Mr. Montano said he believes the moment should be marked in Trinidad and Tobago’s history.
“It should be marked like Hasely Crawford winning a gold medal or Keshorn Walcott winning a gold medal, or Brian Lara breaking 375, Sobers. I hope I get a little house. A diplomatic passport, like Skinny, you know what I’m saying? At least get back my bus route pass. I just hope for one, Trinidad and Tobago you recognise us, hard-working entertainers in the music industry, in the arts.”
Music producer of ‘Encore’, Mevon Soodeen, also known as XplicitMevon, said that, despite moments of doubt during the intense Road March campaign, strong leadership from Machel Montano kept everyone focused and determined to secure the win.
“There were moments where we felt kind of down, but as Machel, being the strong-minded person, he was leading the team. And he was like, ‘Fellas, no, the lights might dim, but we had to put it back on and we had to put in the work.’ So definitely when it is the team started to feel a little bit of pressure, he was definitely reassuring and showing us that, no, we’re getting this.”
