The weather held up nicely for the players and fans who came out to witness the semi-finals of the Mason Hall Police Youth Club Under 20 Football tournament.
Maybe it was a bit of nerves on this Friday evening but both teams didn’t look that sharp in the early exchanges at the Dwight Yorke Stadium.
The breakthrough came for Bethel in the 40th minute when the Riquelme Phillips cross was put away by Jeremiah Wickham. They took that advantage to the break.
Bethel wanted to put this contest out of reach for the opposition early and managed to go 2-0 up just three minutes after the resumption. The combination of Phillips and Wickham working again.
A handle ball three minutes later gave them the opportunity to make it three.
Skipper Riquelme took the responsibility but shot wide.
And then this game made a complete 180 as Mason Hall finally woke up. The initial shot blocked and Imanuel Wright was there to finish at the far post. 2-1 in the 55th.
Mason Hall maintained that momentum and came close a couple times before finally finding the equalizer. Wright rounding the defence to slot home in the 68th minute. 2-ALL and that’s show it stayed as they headed to the penalty shoot out.
Trailing 6-4, Bethel had to score and they did to make it 6-5.
Mason Hall scores and it’s game over. Michah Waldron delivers. 7-5 in the penalty shootout to complete the turnaround to book their spot in the Final.
