Families in Mayaro, Rio Claro have received disaster relief and home repair grants as the Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services continues its community outreach programme.
The grants were distributed during the Ministry’s latest visit to the constituency, with officials highlighting efforts to provide assistance to vulnerable households.
The Mayaro constituency has hosted its third grant distribution exercise in less than a year, with residents receiving support through disaster assistance and home repair programmes.
Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Mayaro, Nicholas Morris, says the initiative reflects a greater focus on bringing government services directly to communities.
The exercise formed part of the Ministry’s wider programme to clear outstanding applications and provide support to families requiring assistance.
Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services, Vandana Mohit, said the government inherited significant backlogs and has been working to address them.
During the exercise, the Ministry distributed disaster assistance grants to 13 households and home repair grants to six households in the Mayaro, Rio Claro area.
Officials say the programme is part of ongoing efforts to bring social support services closer to communities across Trinidad and Tobago.
