Wallerfield United made a push to get into the top 5 of the Eastern FA League after narrowly beating 10th place Eastern Connect on Friday night in La Horquetta.
The Phase 2 Recreation Ground in La Horquetta played host to an Eastern Division clash between 6th place Wallerfield United and 10th place Eastern Connect FC on Friday night. Eastern, in red and black, looked a bit more threatening in the first half but they went to the break goalless.
Wallerfied showed a little more fight in the second half and searched for the opening item trying to take advantage of a roaming goalkeeper.
Indeed, they seemed to be the team that might find the back of the net first. Still no scoring in La Horquetta.
Eastern took some time to get going in the second period but needed to be more convincing with their actions in front of goal.
Wallerfield too couldn’t say that they were not getting chances. They were just not capitalizing on the moment.
The arrival of the heavy showers turned out to be blessing for Wallerfield when #9 broke free to lay off to #17 to slot home past the advancing keeper. 1-0 in the 62nd.
Eastern Connect tried for a response soon after but could only find the wrong side of the upright.
A late freekick could have levelled matters but the keeper wasn’t having it, pushing the effort over bar.
With less than ten minutes to, Eastern thought for certain they had found the equalizer but the striker was indecisive at the far post.
They were persistent though and were getting good looks.
Of course, that left gaps on the other end and they nearly paid for it but was let off by the attacker. That would have sealed their fate.
Nevertheless, there would be no more scoring in this EFA contest as Wallerfield United take the narrow 1-0 win over Eastern Connect FC.
