The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services continued its direct delivery of Sowing Empowerment through Entrepreneurial Development (SEED) grants on Friday, August 7, 2026, providing Forty-Three Thousand, Five Hundred and Two Dollars (TT$43,502.00) in assistance to three recipients in Arouca, D’Abadie and Tunapuna.
The Honourable Vandana Mohit, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services, personally visited the recipients at their homes to present their grants and hear first-hand about their plans to establish and expand their businesses.
The grants will support micro-enterprises in packaging and shipping supplies, beauty and nail technician services, and mobile waxing and beauty services. The assistance will provide the recipients with resources to develop their businesses and pursue sustainable income opportunities.
The home visits form part of the Ministry’s approach to bringing social assistance closer to citizens, particularly persons who may experience challenges accessing services through traditional channels. The direct engagement also provides an opportunity for Ministry officials to better understand beneficiaries’ circumstances and see how Government assistance can translate into tangible opportunities for individuals and families.
During the visits, Minister Mohit said, “the approach reflects the Ministry’s commitment to meeting citizens where they are and ensuring that assistance reaches those who need it. These visits are about more than handing over a grant. They are about connecting people with opportunities and ensuring that the support provided can make a meaningful difference in their lives.”
The SEED Programme, administered through the National Social Development Programme, provides assistance to eligible persons to establish or expand micro-enterprises, with the aim of promoting economic empowerment, self-sufficiency and sustainable livelihoods.
The Ministry will continue to engage communities directly as it works to ensure that social services are accessible and responsive to the needs of citizens.
