Families in the San Juan/Laventille region received seventy-two thousand, one hundred and seventy-four dollars and fifty cents ($72,174.50) in Disaster Relief Grants on Friday 3 July 2026, as the Honourable Vandana Mohit, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services, continued the Ministry’s national disaster relief efforts, through a distribution event and home visits.
During the distribution event, which took place at the Ministry’s head office, St. Vincent St, Port of Spain, Minister Mohit reaffirmed that disaster relief extends beyond financial assistance and reflects the Government’s commitment to standing with citizens during difficult times. She encouraged recipients to use the assistance responsibly, noting that every grant represents an investment in helping families recover, rebuild and move forward with dignity.
A total of ten (10) households, representing thirty-five (35) beneficiaries, received Disaster Relief Grants. The assistance comprised:
- Household Items Grants totalling fifty-five thousand, four hundred and seventy-six dollars (TT$55,476.00)
- Clothing Grants totalling fourteen thousand dollars (TT$14,000.00)
- School Supplies Grants totalling two thousand, six hundred and ninety-eight dollars and fifty cents (TT$2,698.50)
Following the distribution event, Minister Mohit, accompanied by the Honourable Devesh Maharaj, Minister of Justice, Minister in the Ministry of the Attorney General and Member of Parliament for Aranguez/St. Joseph, conducted two home visits within the San Juan/Laventille region, to personally deliver Disaster Relief Grants to beneficiaries. By bringing assistance directly into communities, the visits reinforced the importance of delivering timely, accessible and people-centred support to those in need, ensuring relief reaches families with dignity, compassion and care.
