MoRDLG Monitors Flooding In Cedros District And Provides Assistance To Affected Households

The Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government (MoRDLG), through its Disaster Management Unit, is actively monitoring and responding to flooding affecting several communities in the Cedros District.

Following periods of heavy rainfall and overcast conditions, reports have been received of household flooding in the following areas:

  • Bonasse Village, including Manmohan Singh Street and Edward Street
  • Fullerton, including beachfront and Fullerton Village
  • Limefield Village, including Campbell Street
  • St. Mary’s Housing Development along Perseverance Road

Approximately 15 households have been affected with water intrusion into homes. The Ministry’s teams are currently on the ground conducting damage assessments.

The Minister of Rural Development and Local Government, The Honorable Khadijah Ameen has directed that immediate assistance be provided to affected residents, including cleaning supplies and support for clean-up operations.

The Ministry is also monitoring river levels in the Icacos area, where rivers are reported to be at bank-full capacity, and is closely observing tidal conditions which may affect low-lying areas. One report of a potential landslide has been received. Assessments indicate the affected house is not under immediate threat, and the matter is private in nature.

The Ministry continues to collaborate with the Siparia Regional Corporation, Members of Parliament and other first responder agencies to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.

Residents in affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions, avoid flood waters, and contact the Siparia Regional Corporation Disaster Management Unit for assistance.

The Ministry remains committed to supporting all affected communities.
