In a lively and spirited event that brought together health, wellness, and the vibrant sounds of soca, hundreds of participants took part in a fitness walk that culminated at the summit of Lady Chancellor Hill.
The event was hosted by Ministry of Youth Development and National Service, in collaboration with Fay Ann Lyons-Alvarez Hybrd Nation, and the North West Regional Health Authority on Saturday.
Journalist Danielle John and Cameraman Rajnauth Lal were there to bring you the action!
In a vibrant fusion of fitness and fun, hundreds of patrons laced up their sneakers and took to Lady Chancellor Hill for a health and wellness walk.
This as the Ministry of Youth Development and National Service, in collaboration with Fay Ann Lyons-Alvarez Hybrd Nation, and the North West Regional Health Authority, hosted a walk themed “top of the hill 1” on Saturday.
Soca music echoed through the air, seeming to distract participants from the intensity of the climb.
The event saw a diverse crowd, with participants of all ages— from babies in strollers to the more mature, proving that fitness and fun truly have no age limit.
Minister of Youth Development and National Service Foster Cummings said that his Ministry is on a mission to ensure that all citizens remain in great health.
“Well at the ministry of youth development and national service we are focusing on health and wellness. we’re encouraging young people and all citizens for that matter to live healthy, to exercise and make sure and take good care of yourselves.”
Also in attendance was Chief Executive Officer of the North West Regional Health Authority Anthony Blake who stressed that events like these are of utmost importance.
“With the high prevalence of NCDs in Trinidad and Tobago its important that we always encourage people to move, to exercise, to eat healthy, to drink water and so on.”
And student at the Military-Led Academic Training Programme (MILAT), Abraham Bhagwansingh described the event as stress reliever.
“After long hours of studying all day all weekend we just came out here to get a breath of fresh air. you know a little exercise because we dont really get to exercise much while we studying so today is a wonderful experience, meeting so much new people and just having a wonderful time really and truly.”
At the top of the hill the spirited crowd transformed the event into an impromptu fete, in true Fay-Ann Lyons fashion.
Speaking exclusively with TTT news after the walk, Mrs. Lyons-Alvarez encouraged young people to get involved in fitness.
“It was seamless everybody had a time, it was wonderful to see so many young people which we always encourage to come on the hill. But it was nice to see more young people coming out it means the younger the generation that gets into fitness the better the older generation is going to be, because you know we need them to run the country in some years.”
The “Top of the Hill 1” Health and Wellness Walk aimed to engage with citizens in an environment that emboldens their physical and mental health.
