National Footballer Held For Possession Of Marijuana

A current and a former national footballer have been held in a police anti-drug operation in Central Trinidad.

The men were among six people, five men and one woman, who were held for possession of marijuana.

Police sources told TTT that officers, acting on intelligence, raided a house in Cunupia where they found the group and a total of 250 grammes of marijuana.

The six were arrested and taken to a police station to be interviewed.

Although marijuana has been decriminalised, individuals are allowed to be in possession of no more than 30 grammes of marijuana.

Sources say the footballers face possible charges of possession of marijuana since the amount found in the house, given the number of occupants, falls below the limit for trafficking.

They can face a fine of up to $50,000 on summary conviction or community service.
