National Parenting Policy To Be Implemented

Government is taking steps to empower and support parents and caregivers through the planned implementation of the National Parenting Policy.

This was highlighted by Director of Policy and Community at the Ministry of Homeland Security, Zaheer Ali, as efforts continue to strengthen family support systems and promote positive parenting practices across the country.

The Ministry of Homeland Security’s Director of Policy and Community, Zaheer Ali, speaking at a National Parenting Seminar, noted that the initiative was a collaborative effort between the Ministry of People, Social Development and Family Services and the National Parent Teachers Association.

Chief Medical Officer at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Jeanine St. Bernard, noted that the ongoing National Parenting Seminars also play an important role in society.

“Initiatives such as this seminar provide a valuable opportunity to strengthen parenting skills, promote resilience, encourage early identification of emotional and behavioural difficulties and improve access to appropriate support services.”

Meanwhile, president of the Parent Teachers National Council, Walter Stuart reminded parents at the seminar that no one is perfect.

“The provision that we need to make as parents is to be able to provide for our children spiritually, provide for them morally, provide for them emotionally, as I said before, always being there for them.”

The National Parenting seminar brought together parents, teachers social workers and care givers from across the country to receive support and be empowered.
