Minister of National Security Fitzgerald Hinds said that the appointment of former Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith was “an experiment that spectacularly failed.”
Minister Hinds explained that the information presented to the Members of Parliament before the former Commissioner was selected was what was used by the members when they made their vote in the House.
Minister Hinds, in responding to media questions, admitted that the process in selecting a Commissioner was the responsibility of the Police Service Commission. He said the former Commissioner was high on the merit list and with his extensive background and experience, these were taken into consideration when the list was brought for consideration to the Members of Parliament.
