New Committee Established To Oversee Buccoo Reef Marine Park

A Buccoo Reef Management Committee has been established to oversee and strengthen the regulation and management of activities within the Buccoo Reef Marine Park.

Director of Marine Resources Barry Lovelace said the newly formed committee comprises approximately 12 to 13 core members.

He said the committee was officially commissioned by the Tobago House of Assembly’s Executive Council and was deliberately launched without publicity.

Over the past year, safety concerns at Pigeon Point and Buccoo Reef have highlighted the need for stronger marine park laws.

While regulations are in place, enforcement remains limited, as the Tobago Marine Parks Bill is still under parliamentary review.
