No Plans To Privatise WASA

Minister of Public Utilities, Marvin Gonzales, has accused Oropouche East Member of Parliament, Dr. Roodal Moonilal, of spreading devious and unfounded allegations about the Government’s restructuring of the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA).

At a Media Conference hosted by the United National Congress on Sunday, Dr. Moonilal claimed that Government intends to privatise WASA.

The Public Utilities Minister says he was flabbergasted when he heard the allegations. He says it was the People National Movement Government that laid the 2020 Cabinet Sub-Committee Report on WASA in the Parliament.

Minister Gonzales is also baffled by Dr. Moonilal’s claim that the WASA is training 50 managers at the National Academy for Performing Arts (NAPA) to replace the current managers who are to be sent home. He says it was only on Sunday night during a discussion with a member of the WASA Board that he learned that the group are actually On the Job Trainees.
