Police have arrested one man and seized a firearm, a magazine and several rounds of ammunition during intelligence-led exercises conducted in the Central, Southern and Eastern Divisions over the past 24 hours.
Between midnight and 4am on 5th September, 2026, officers of the Southern Division Task Force conducted an Operation RESOLUTE Shield exercise in the Southern and Central Divisions.
Based on surveillance and intelligence, the officers proceeded to an apartment located along the Southern Main Road, California, where they conducted a search.
A 34-year-old man was subsequently arrested for possession of six rounds of 9mm ammunition and a Smith & Wesson magazine capable of holding 17 rounds.
The operation was coordinated by Snr. Supt. Hospedales, Supt. Bertie, W/Supt. Bridgelal, Asp. Pacheco, ASP. Ramsarran, ASP. Chulhan and Inspector Wilkinson, and was directly supervised by Sgt. Singh and Cpl. Heeralal.
Earlier, in the Eastern Division, between 8:30pm on Friday, 4th September, and 1:30am on Saturday, 5th September, officers of the Cumuto Criminal Investigations Department and Cumuto Charge Room conducted an intelligence-led exercise in the district.
At approximately 10:30pm, the team received information which led them to Didier Trace, Cumuto.
There, they observed a man dressed in dark clothing standing along the north-eastern side of the roadway, in a bushy area.
Upon looking in the direction of the patrol unit, the man began running northwards and dropped a clear plastic bag containing several objects before fleeing into the bushy area.
A comprehensive search of the area was conducted, during which the team discovered a transparent plastic bag containing three rounds of .32 ammunition and a silver-coloured .32 Special revolver containing two rounds of .32 ammunition.
The search continued towards the eastern side of a school, in the direction in which the man had fled. However, neither the man nor any further items were found.
The operation was spearheaded by Snr. Supt. Frank, Supt. McKenzie, ASP Balewa and ASP Morales, coordinated by W/Insp. Ramai and Sgt. Calson, and supervised by PC Marshall.
