PM Calls ‘Practical Completion’ Of POSGH Central Block A ‘Con Job’ By Former Administration

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is describing the former Government’s “practical completion” of the Port of Spain General Hospital’s Central Block as a “con job”.

Responding to Prime Minister’s Questions in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, she said equipment and furniture were brought in from other locations and set up in the Central Block to give the impression that the facility was complete.

“It was not ready. It was a construction site. It was a con job on the people of Trinidad and Tobago. On March 10th, 2025, one of the biggest charades was perpetrated on the people of T&T when a practical completion ceremony, whatever that means, was held. And at that time, at that time, the facility was still a major construction site and very, very, very far from completion.”

Regarding a date for the project’s completion and operation, the Prime Minister assured that it is nearing the final stages.

“My administration has been working to complete the outstanding work, and at the same time, we are putting together a plan to have the hospital block up and running. We are working on the additional staffing, outfitting and programme development. The Minister of Health, together with UDeCOTT, has advised that these works early identified are far from advanced and will be nearing completion when the Minister will then give us further details. So I hope we have a team working to get that block up and running once and for all.”
