Police Commissioner Guevarro Marks First Year In Office With Focus On Public Trust And Performance

Today marks one year since Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro took office.

In a video production by the police’s audio-visual unit to celebrate the milestone, Commissioner Guevarro assured the public that the TTPS remains committed to protecting every creed, race, religion and community without fear, favour or prejudice.

Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro placed focus on several key priorities in his first year, including strengthening leadership, capacity and operational effectiveness; expanding partnerships; embracing innovation and restoring public confidence.

The TTPS said the Commissioner has consistently led by example, accompanying officers on operations, while reinforcing a culture of professionalism, discipline, and operational excellence.

It also noted more than 2312 officers have been trained in critical investigative areas, including homicide, gangs, cybercrime, forensic accounting and fraud.

His other accomplishments include a 100 percent hostage recovery rate by the anti-kidnapping unit and the establishment of a dedicated 24-hour airport security patrol unit and a diplomatic policing unit.

Mr Guevarro has also overseen the introduction of the Active Directed Patrol Initiative, ADPI, an intelligence led policing strategy that uses crime data to deploy coordinated patrols to identified hotspots, improving visibility, response times, and crime prevention efforts.

The police service has meanwhile embraced technology with the acquisition of 26 new fully electric vehicles and LIDAR speed enforcement devices.

The top cop maintained policing is not only about enforcing the law, but also serving people, building relationships and earning trust.

Although much of his first year unfolded against a backdrop of a state of emergency, the TTPS noted the Commissioner’s legacy, during this period, is reflected in the foundations laid for a stronger, professional, and more capable police service.
