A home invasion at the residence of an elderly couple in Santa Cruz and the theft of construction equipment from an unoccupied house in Woodbrook are among the incidents currently engaging the police’s attention.

TTT News understands that an elderly couple in Lower Santa Cruz were victims of a violent home invasion after they were awakened by gunmen who stormed their home in the early hours of Monday morning.

The 76-year-old man and a 77-year-old woman were asleep in their bedroom when they were awakened by intruders at around 1:30am.

One of the suspects pressed a gun against the back of the man’s head and announced a robbery, while the second suspect tied up both victims and left them restrained on their bed.

The bandits ransacked the house, making off with a 32-inch television, an Amazon Fire Stick, a Nokia cell phone, and a green Nissan Wingroad valued at approximately TT$30,000.

The bandits gained entry by prying open a back door and escaped using the stolen vehicle.

The bandits made off with a welding plant, oxygen tanks, a chop saw, a torch, a hair dryer, a heater, eyelash extensions, a massage bed, mirrors, and a TCL television.

The items were discovered missing during a routine check of the property.

Officers of the Port of Spain CID visited the scene but were unable to gain access as the premises were barricaded.
