Children’s Authority Calls For Justice For Mercedez Layne

The Children’s Authority is calling for a full and thorough investigation into the brutal murder of 12-year-old Mercedez Layne and is urging the justice system to hold all those responsible fully accountable under the law.

In a statement, the Authority expressed its deepest condolences to Layne’s family, friends, classmates, community, and all those affected by her tragic death.

It stressed that no child should ever experience fear, abuse, exploitation, or violence, adding that children have a fundamental right to life, safety, and the opportunity to grow in an environment where they can reach their full potential.

The Authority said that right was violated and strongly condemned the horrific act.

It also reiterated its commitment to strengthening partnerships, increasing public education, and advancing awareness initiatives aimed at creating safer environments for children.

Members of the public are reminded to report concerns about a child’s safety to the Police at 999 or the Children’s Authority at 996.
