Police Seize Gun, Ammunition, And Cannabis In Tobago Operations

A beachgoer successfully thwarted a robbery and seized a firearm from one of his attackers, while a separate anti-drug operation resulted in the seizure of cannabis and drug-related items in Tobago yesterday.

On Saturday, 30th May, 2026, in the first incident, which occurred around 1:30 p.m. at Back Bay Beach, Mt. Irvine, a 67-year-old man of Londonville, Chaguanas, was resting in his silver Toyota Voxy motor vehicle when he was approached by two masked men, one of whom was armed with a firearm.

The armed suspect entered the vehicle, announced a hold-up and robbed the victim of TT$1,000 from his wallet. During the robbery, the suspect reportedly placed the firearm on the seat. The victim immediately grabbed the weapon, causing both suspects to flee into nearby bushes.

Officers attached to the Shirvan Road Police Station and the Criminal Investigations Department responded to the report and recovered a black and silver Glock 21 pistol along with five rounds of .45 calibre ammunition.

Crime Scene Investigators processed the scene and conducted enquiries. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

In a separate exercise, officers of the Tobago Divisional Task Force conducted a drug eradication operation dubbed Operation Steady Guard Drug Block between 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. in the Bon Accord area, based on intelligence regarding the sale and distribution of cannabis.

During surveillance exercises, officers observed a man fitting the description received, but the suspect fled the area. While escaping, a black T-shirt, cellular phone and a white plastic bag reportedly fell from his possession. Despite a foot pursuit by officers, the suspect managed to evade capture.

A search of the recovered items resulted in the seizure of approximately 179 grammes of cannabis, a black and silver digital scale and a blue Apple iPhone.

Further investigations revealed that the location where the items were recovered was approximately 60 metres from a preschool and day-care facility.

Investigations are continuing into both matters as police pursue leads to identify and arrest the suspects involved.
