Commuters travelling between Port of Spain and Chaguanas by taxi are being advised of a proposed fare increase.
The Port of Spain to Chaguanas Taxi Drivers’ Association said from October 11th, fares will increase to $15, up from $11.
In a statement today, the Association said the fare increase was due to rising costs as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Other increased costs include vehicle maintenance costs, supermarket costs, educational expenses, increased insurance premiums and a reduced passenger capacity under COVID-19 health regulations.
The Association said the new fares will be made available to the public and displayed within each registered taxi.
Additionally, Association members will be outfitted in uniform with the Association’s monogram along with the statement of fares on display in each taxi.
