Siparia Regional Corporation Not Against Borough Status

The Siparia Regional Corporation denies that it is against making Siparia a Borough, but believes basic funding to the Corporation should be made a priority now.

In March, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley reaffirmed Government’s move to make Siparia and Diego Martin Boroughs.

On Friday, Acting Chairman of the Corporation, Chandra Ramadharsingh, said the Corporation is reeling from a shortage of funding, which is hampering their ability to carry out functions such as the maintenance of vehicles, buildings and facilities, water trucking, and road repair. The Corporation said the $800,000 allocated for a year is not adequate and believes the priority should be given to them before Borough status is even considered.

Meanwhile, Councillor for Avocat/San Francique North, Doodnath Mayhroo, wants the new Minister of Rural Development and Local Government, Faris Al-Rawi, to take a deep look into Siparia, saying that there are countless issues to be addressed.

TTT News reached out to Minister Al-Rawi but was awaiting a response up to news time.
