Suspected Marijuana, Cellphone Seized At Golden Grove Prison

Prohibited items, including approximately 657 grammes of suspected marijuana, a cellular phone and a cellphone charger, were seized at the Golden Grove Prison on Tuesday morning.

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service (TTPrS), the items were discovered at around 8:15am by an officer attached to the prison’s Agricultural Department while conducting routine duties in Estate 2.

The TTPrS said the suspected prohibited articles were found inside a package and were subsequently secured.

The items were later handed over to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service for forensic analysis, while investigations into the incident are continuing.

In a statement, the Prison Service said it remains committed to maintaining the safety, security and good order of the nation’s correctional institutions through the vigilance and professionalism of its officers.

The TTPrS also commended the officer involved for demonstrating vigilance and professionalism in the execution of duty.
