More than two decades after its debut, Kambule continues to bring the story of the 1881 Canboulay riots to life. First staged in 2004, playwright Eintou Springer’s annual play recreates the events of the Canboulay Riots while exploring the traditions, struggles and triumphs that gave rise to Carnival and the nation’s rich cultural heritage.
