In a display of longstanding commitment towards supporting societal tradition and customs, The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) has renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Council of Indian Culture (NCIC).
This renewal builds on the agreement first established in 2022, to develop and preserve East Indian culture, with both entities sharing a common goal to contribute meaningfully to society while showing respect for the diverse culture of Trinidad and Tobago. Drafted with the aim of cultural cooperation, preservation, diversity and national development, collaborative work will be carried out to strengthen to the cultural identity of the East Indian diaspora in Trinidad and Tobago.
At the signing event for this MoU, Senator Professor Emeritus the Honourable Prakash Persad, Minister of Tertiary Education and Skills Training highlighted the need to align the value of this collaborative effort to national development, and its potential for commercial and research opportunities while also impacting education.
Professor Selwyn R. Cudjoe, O.R.T.T., Executive Chairman of the Board of Governors, UTT, similarly made mention of the role education plays in this MoU, and its ability to advance culture. He urged both organisations to work together to ensure that this MoU does not serve merely as a document, but as a partnership which will preserve our country’s heritage.
The formal renewal of this strategic partnership displays UTT’s commitment to driving intellectual growth while recognising cultural standards, which displays a progressive approach to education.
The University is proud of this initiative and looks forward to continued cooperation with culture-based organisations to benefit all of Trinidad and Tobago.
