The University of the West Indies (The UWI), St Augustine Campus, said it celebrated the graduation of 3,091 students from 22 countries during six ceremonies held in October.
The University added that the Class of 2026 comprised 2,270 undergraduate and 821 postgraduate students across the campus’ eight faculties.
It noted that the graduating class included students from countries across the Caribbean, North America, Africa, Europe and Asia, highlighting the campus’ regional and global reach.
The University also conferred honorary degrees on three distinguished Caribbean leaders: agricultural economist and former Permanent Secretary Winston Rudder, diplomat Ambassador Colin Granderson, and Bahamian surgeon and educator Professor Shaneeta Johnson.
Throughout the ceremonies, valedictorians encouraged graduates to embrace leadership, service and regional development, while challenging them to use their education to make meaningful contributions to society.
The UWI said the messages delivered by its valedictorians throughout the ceremonies reflected a shared commitment to purpose, responsibility and Caribbean advancement, reinforcing the readiness of the Class of 2026 to help shape “the Caribbean and beyond”.
