The UWI’s Extraordinary Success

The University of the West Indies made extraordinary progress in the years in which the pandemic struck.

In his review of that time period, UWI, Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Hilary Beckles noted that although it was a struggle, the university stepped up its mandate to serve the Caribbean.

Professor Beckles said they led with the determination to continue to provide the products of the university. He notes that two cohorts of students completed their degrees and graduated.

The Vice Chancellor says UWI achieved a reputation revolution and emerged a leader in higher education in the world.
