Tobago Police say they are doing everything in their power to find missing toddler Angelo Tobias-Plaza but are calling on the public to stop spreading misinformation.
After spending the weekend searching the Studley Park Landfill, Senior Superintendent Rodhill Kirk told TTT News that officers are sparing no effort in trying to bring closure to the family of the two-year-old and the Goodwood community desperate for a breakthrough.
He confirmed that two of baby Angelo’s relatives are in custody but warned the public against spreading misinformation during a sensitive investigation.
“We are recognising that there are a lot of false narrative and false information that is being spewed about in the public domain. We want to have people discourage that. We are seeing on Facebook a lot of false information.”
Two-year-old Angelo was reported missing seven days ago. He was believed to have wandered out of his home in Goodwood and into the nearby sea.
His disappearance sparked a massive multi-agency search effort amid dangerous sea conditions.
The Senior Superintendent also pleaded with the public to pay close attention to their children, particularly toddlers, to minimise the recurrence of these types of incidents.
“Please, please, please give your children of tender age that necessary care and attention to which they need. We don’t want a situation like this repeat in the future. We are not saying that anyone deliberately do anything, but we are urging the public. Children of these ages are vulnerable. Take the utmost care in which to provide that level of protection to which those children are deserving.”
Senior Superintendent Kirk encouraged anyone with information on the whereabouts of baby Angelo to contact the police directly or through anonymous sources by calling 800-TIPS, 555, 211, or 999.
He assured that any information received will be treated with the strictest confidentiality.
