Commissioner of Police Erla Harewood-Christopher has ordered an investigation into issues raised in the April 25th judgement regarding the arrest of firearms dealer Brent Thomas.
In a statement this afternoon Commissioner Harewood-Christopher expressed concern with the judgement but said she has been duly informed that steps are being taken to appeal the judgement. As such she is unable to give any further information on the matter at this time.
On April 25, High Court Justice Devindra Rampersad ordered a stay on criminal charges against Mr. Thomas. The judge said he found that members of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) had acted unlawfully when they went to Barbados, “abducted” Thomas and brought him back to Trinidad and Tobago before charging him for possession of firearms for which he had the necessary licences.
