Trio To Face 19 Kidnap, Assault And False Imprisonment Charges

Three persons are due to appear before the Siparia Magistrates’ Court to face multiple charges relating to a series of offences committed between June 2019 and April 2026.

The defendants, Fareeda Balgobin, Joshua Benny, and Rohit Sitahal, will appear before the court on the following charges:

Fareeda Balgobin is charged with:

  • One count of False Imprisonment
  • One count of Throwing a Noxious Substance
  • Two counts of Inflicting Grievous Bodily Harm
  • One count of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm
  • One count of Choking
  • One count of Kidnapping
  • Three additional related charges
  • Joshua Benny is charged with:
  • One count of Throwing a Noxious Substance
  • Two counts of Inflicting Grievous Bodily Harm
  • One count of Kidnapping
  • One additional related charge

  • Rohit Sitahal is charged with:
  • One count of Throwing a Noxious Substance
  • Two counts of Inflicting Grievous Bodily Harm
  • One additional related charge

These charges arise from a report alleging that the victim was held against her will and subjected to prolonged abuse during the period June 2019 to April 11th, 2026.

Following the report, PC Lee Lum was assigned to investigate the matter under the supervision and guidance of Senior Superintendent Simon, W/Supt Bridgelal, ASP Chulhan, Insp Ramdial, Insp Nandlal, and Insp Maharaj, with legal advice provided by ASP Phillip.

On June 3rd, 2026, instructions were issued by Supt Bridgelal, with
assistance from Sgt Bassarath, to prefer charges against the accused.

The matter is scheduled for hearing on Friday, June 5th, 2026.
