T&T Prison Service Announces Death Of Inmate At Port Of Spain Facility

The Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service regrets to inform the public of the death of an inmate who was housed at the Port of Spain Prison on Saturday, June 20, 2026.

According to an interim report, on Saturday, June 20, 2026, AC Merchinson Thomas was discharged from the Port of Spain General Hospital, where he was warded.

He was returned to the prison and, at around 12.10 pm, he was observed to be unresponsive. Officers from the Medical Services rendered first aid, and, based on the advice of the Prisons Medical Officer, the inmate was immediately returned to the Port of Spain General Hospital for further treatment. At 12.55 pm, he subsequently passed away from pulmonary cardiac arrest.

Mr. Thomas’ next of kin has been contacted by an assigned Welfare Officer, who informed them of the inmate’s death.

The Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service extends condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Merchinson Thomas.
