TTPS Solves Carnival Murders, Continues State Of Emergency Operations

The top brass of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is commending its officers for their decisive action in the fight against crime and hailing the support of collaborating law enforcement agencies.

At a Media Briefing on Tuesday, Acting Commissioner of Police Junior Benjamin stated that there has been an incremental decline in the number of murders committed in Trinidad and Tobago during the period January to March 2025, as compared to the same period in 2024 and 2023.

He said the police wish there were no murders; however, the situation is one that demands a committed effort by the police and other law enforcement agencies.

“We are looking at every situation, and we are not taking it for granted. We are on the job, and I want to really commend the Divisional Commanders and all of our officers, whether First Division officers, Second Division officers, everybody who is playing a part in this.”

According to Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Curt Simon, the TTPS solved three murders that occurred during the Carnival season, including that of eighteen-year-old national youth boxer, Prince Charles.

He noted that the TTPS continues its SOE operations.

“The Carnival is finished, and yet in the last 48 hours, we would have conducted 85 operations, and this is a time really where the TTPS is seeing the most amount of operations being conducted and persons being arrested daily. We have recovered in that 48 hours two firearms, and it takes us now up to 131 for the year thus far.”

Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner of Police for the North West district, Garvin Henry, lamented the loss of life, especially due to violent crime.

“The Police Service will in no way condone or tolerate any violent acts with a view to retaliation or any kind of vigilante acts that may arise from the issue that occurred. We, in order to ensure that there is no reoccurrence of it, as I said, we maintain a presence in the Sea Lots area.”

The TTPS says it continues to utilise the ongoing State of Emergency. Thus far, over 3,649 targeted operations were conducted, with over 3,000 rounds of ammunition seized.
