The Joint Trade Union Movement has made it clear that Freedom Day will still be celebrated on September 1st, despite the three-month extension of the State of Emergency approved by the Parliament.
General Secretary of JTUM, Ozzi Warwick, said, initially, the Day was meant to coincide with two events: the end of the first SoE on August 30th, and Independence Day on August 31st.
Mr. Warwick said the organisation is still awaiting a response from the Acting Police Commissioner Gary Griffith to host the event.
He added that the day is very important as it will allow citizens to highlight some of their issues.
Mr. Warwick said the organisation plans to be on the streets in one form or the other on September 1st.
