Repair work has begun on the broken 36-inch pipeline at the Godineau river in South Trinidad.
The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) started the re-routing process on Wednesday after the pipeline collapsed on Tuesday.
The collapse of the pipeline has left a number of communities in the Southern area without pipe-borne water. Among the areas are Gulf View, Bel Air, Green Acres, La Romaine, Woodland, San Francique, Avocat, South Oropouche, Union Hall, Duncan Village, Palmiste, Sunkist, Esperance, Debe, parts of Penal, Siparia, Quarry Village, Cocoyea, Pleasantville, Vistabella, Marabella, and San Fernando.
WASA said all materials to effect repair have been identified and have been transported to the site. The repair exercise includes the replacement of the 150 metres of pipeline., 30 metres of fabricated pipework, and the supporting structural works.
The Authority says work is expected to be completed within in 36 hours.
